Mobility of the Future - Preliminary Results Mobility of Goods

The logistics industry is in upheaval. Growing cities, e-commerce and smart production processes are new challenges for the transport logistics industry.

These include the increasing number of small-scale deliveries in cities, which is having an impact on air quality, noise and traffic volumes. However, these significant challenges also give rise to opportunities for making the transport of goods more efficient and more environmentally friendly. It's about alternative propulsion systems and the conversion to environmentally friendly modes of transport, such as the railways. It's also about using networking, digitisation and cooperations to organise the transport of goods efficiently and to sharply reduce the environmental burden.

The Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) is supporting the search for new ways in the transport industry. With the research programme Mobility of the Future, the BMVIT is placing a special focus on projects that research, develop and try out new forms of logistical organisation. From 2012 to 2016, the BMVIT supported 62 transport logistics research projects with a total of EUR 12.8 million.
